| Parish
Life is focused on Christian Fellowship, and hosts a number of receptions,
surprises, Sunday coffee hours, the annual picnic in June. There is
much love, caring, as well as a real feeling of community at the various
gatherings. Lots of people provide food and support at these events
throughout the year. We truly enjoy our time of fellowship with each
other!
Parish Life
also has the following groups under its commission:
- Parish
Book and Gift Shop - A wonderful group of volunteers operate
the shop daily. Lots of theological and devotional books, cookbooks,
unique greeting cards, jewelry, including the sterling silver
cross, Grace Heals. The shop supports the Churchs
mission of outreach.
- Episcopal
Church Women (ECW) - Begun at the national level in 1871, ECW
is open to all women of the church. A busy group, their biggest
event in the December Silent Auction. The money acquired goes
entirely for outreach, such as Jackson-Field Home, the mitten
tree, and many other worthy causes. Other events include the annual
United Thank Offering breakfast, fall meetings and an annual spring
luncheon.
- Naomi Dozier
Circle - Meeting the first Monday in March, June, September, and
December at 11 am in the Parish Hall, their main focus is fellowship
and support for ECW and the Jackson-Field Home for young women
who need support and a positive influence in their lives.
- Canterbury
Circle - This group holds meetings and projects throughout the
year and support for ECW.
- Daughters
of the King - The St. Michael and All Angels chapter was founded
at Grace in 1992. Vowing to pray daily for those in our church
and diocese, the Daughters assist with service projects such as
Maundy Thursday foot washing, prayer shawls, Lenten and Advent
meditation services. Visits to patients in hospitals and nursing
homes, as well as visiting children in the Williamsburg Detention
Home are just a few of the ways the Daughters assist others. There
are approximately 40 women at Grace who wear the silver crosses
of Daughters of the King and more members are always welcome!
- Church Nursery
- Our little ones are lovingly cared for by Diane Garrison and
Nikki Smith. The young children in their care are in wonderful
hands with this mother and daughter team. We are fortunate to
have them in our midst!
- Lemonade
on the Lawn - After the 11:20 services in June, July and August,
a wonderful group of volunteers serves ice-cold lemonade and cookies
under the shade of a tree in the churchyard, or in the parish
hall in case of inclement weather.
Gina Niedenberger
and Roselyn Washburn are the vestry members who head the Parish
Life Commission.
