York County Food Closet

Jesus said, "I was hungry and you gave me food."  The York County Food Closet, a project of York County Church Women United, has been feeding the hungry of York County, Virginia, and Poqouson, Virginia since 1973.

In 2004, there were 1,822 people, representing 516 households, served as many as five times.  Each family is given three large bags of groceries to last 3-4 days plus a Food Lion debit card with which to buy the perishables The Food Closet cannot provide. The Food Closet is supported by 28 churches, 36 organizations, 21 school groups, 13 scout troops, and many individuals and is manned by 50 caring volunteers.

Located at St. Luke's United Methodist Church on Ella Taylor Road, in the Grafton Area of York County, the Food Closet is open Mondays, Wednesdays, and Fridays from 12:30-3:00 p.m. and may be reached by calling 898-9057.
