Search Committee announcement letter
June 19, 2020
Good people of Grace –
It is with distinct pleasure that the Search Committee and the Vestry announce the Rev. Seldon Walker as our new Rector at Grace Church. Seldon is currently an Associate Rector of Christ Church in Alexandria, Virginia.
Seldon received his Masters of Divinity, cum laude, at Virginia Theological Seminary in May 2018. At Christ Church his responsibilities include Christian Formation and oversight of youth, young adults and acolyte ministries. He has purposefully involved youth in all aspects of services, so they have ownership through service.
Prior to attending seminary, Seldon worked as a staff geologist and environmental specialist. He earned a Bachelor of Science in Geological Sciences from James Madison University in Harrisonburg.
Grace’s congregational listening session responses were a strong guiding force to help the Search Committee in final discernment. We would like to thank all who participated in these events that created our map to find a new rector. The Search Committee highlighted those attributes the congregation strongly desired, which were: Emphasis on Pastoral Care, Youth and Families, Music, Growth of the Church, Kindness, Outreach and Longevity. Seldon exhibited strengths in all of these areas.
Seldon is thoughtful and kind, a good listener who is joyful and optimistic. He is hopeful about the future and being called to be our new Rector at Grace Episcopal Church. We are most grateful that he has accepted our call, and for the process that brought him to us – and us to him.
Seldon and his wife April have twin sons, Levi and Hayes, who will celebrate their second birthdays in January 2021.

Blessings to our Grace Church family,
