A Lenten Companion
Welcome to our Lenten Companion! The people of Grace first undertook to write a set of Lenten meditations nearly 20 years ago. That initial set were published in a small booklet and distributed to parishioners and friends. Well, times change and we are going digital this year, in the hopes of saving a few trees and reaching a wider audience.
I recently received the following email from long-time parishioner Al Crane regarding the original publication:
1995 - has it been 19 years? When I got my copy of the 1995 Lenten Companion I was deployed as a military contractor, to support the US Marines and US Navy in a two-month long exercise in California. I wasn't unaccustomed to long deployments in my military career, having spent two year long tours in Vietnam and Korea, and multiple TDY's in both the US and overseas, but each separation from family and home brings it's own challenge.
That year my West Coast deployment coincided with the Lenten season, and reading the Lenten Companion was part of my daily morning prayer and silent time followed with a long walk on the beach before a long 10-14 hour day. Picking up the Companion brought me back to family and home.
Thanks for the endorsement, Al!
Readers are encouraged to check in each day as a spiritual discipline. You will find the Daily Office readings, accompanied by a reflection written by a Grace Church parishioner. If you are accessing this site on the road, so to speak, and do not have a Bible available, here is a link (http://bible.oremus.org) to an easy-to-use resource where you may simply type in the passage you are looking for and find a variety of Bible translations to choose from.
May this be a useful tool for the journey as our community makes its way through the 40 days to Easter. And if you are in the area, we hope you will worship with us, especially during Lent and Easter. Special service dates and times are posted elsewhere on this site.
Peace be with you -
